Life, The Avengers, and Riffing

Hello! Sorry for the delay in posting, friends.  Life, as always, takes precedence and there’s been a lot going on here. Nothing earth shattering, but just enough to keep busy.
I believe I had mentioned before about C2 spearheading clothing drive at her school.  That was apparently the final push that was needed and she received the “Student of the Month” award for April. The school theme was Conservation, and this kid does it in spades. We knew ahead of time so as to make plans to be there, but C2 had NO idea she would be getting it.  When she walked into the room and saw both of her families there, well then the jig was up! Her expression of excitement and surprise was priceless – a great day all around.
Closer to home, I have started a new job. It actually started a little while ago, but I haven’t mentioned it before now. It’s a simple retail job, minimal hours and the pay isn’t great, but it is essentially a placeholder until the real prize arrives this summer. I won’t speak about it here yet, but I had a second interview for a program I am dying to get into and things are looking good. But the placeholder gives me a something to do with my days, a little pocket money, and a sweet employee discount. But I still have my eyes on a greater prize that I’ll share if/when it comes to fruition.
On the nerd front: Age of Ultron is playing everywhere at all hours of the day. The Wif™ and I saw it on the Thursday night screening. She was a little ambivalent, but I loved it. As a one-time film student, I’m sure I’m supposed to pooh-pooh the big summer blockbusters.  Too bad, I was a comics nerd first, and seeing the Avengers up on screen does my heart good, just like it did for the first movie. And wow, the Vision was just perfect. I always thought he was a cool character, never dreaming he could show up in a live action movie. Paul Bettany just nailed the role. Also nerdy related, we went with some friends to see the latest Rifftrax Live event, The Room. For the few of you who don’t know (and shame on you!) Rifftrax is an offshoot of Mystery Science Theater 3000, starring Mike Nelson, Bill Corbett and Kevin Murphy. No puppets, no Satellite of Love, just three funny guys mocking a movie.  And boy, does The Room deserve it. I had not seen this opus from director/writer/producer/star Tommy Wiseau, and now I never need to see it again. Watching it without commentary from the Rifftrax guys must be painful to say the least. Multi hyphenates aren’t necessarily a good thing in Hollywood, and Wiseau’s movie proves it. Some great laughs though, both intentional and not.
Seeing this all in print form, it doesn’t sound like much, although admittedly the new PT job has thrown off my Doctor Who writing schedule a bit.  Reign of Terror is up next and hopefully it will be within the next few days. C3 has her first karate tournament tomorrow which will be fun for all involved.  C1 had done some martial arts at her age, but didn’t want to stick with it.  I can see C3 becoming REALLY into it, if only for the sanctioned hitting and throwing of  people. Thanks for reading here.  You’re quiet, but I know SOMEONE’S been reading so thank you.  Please feel free to leave a comment, question, hello, dirty joke, whatever really, just to get an idea of who’s out there. Until next time, “There are no strings on me.”

  1. I'm not super excited about Avengers but I think C is taking the kids to it next weekend and I can lay about doing nothing which appeals to me. And then the weekend after that Tomorrowland comes out, and I'm wicked excited for that.

Since I know about your super secret program, I'll just say that I'm SO EXCITED for you and I think you'll be the best [INSERT PROGRAM] ever. I'm also kind of excited about your retail job too because it's something I always wanted to do if I didn't have to actually do something. :)

    Love you!
