Two Weeks In

Here we are folks, two weeks in to the New Year, and I’m already not a fan of 2015.  Personal issues aside, WTF is happening in our world? The Charlie Hebdo attack in France, which for some reason seemed to kick any news of the Colorado bombing down a few notches. Sen. Ted Cruz overseeing NASA in Congress? The man who said about global warming, “The last 15 years, there has been no recorded warming.” Uh huh. Mitt Romney is talking about running for President again. I can’t even go on, that’s the straw on my camel's back for 2015 so far.

As for me, I keep plugging away.  I had an exam on Monday and have another on Thursday that will help determine if I can get into this alternate teacher certification program at the University of Delaware. Monday wasn’t bad, overall, but part of it was math and wow, my limited math skills have declined over the years. Thursday’s exam doesn’t look bad, so here’s hoping.

Hey, let me talk about Doctor Who for a moment, as when things get me down or frustrated, that’s what I do. I’ve watched two stories this week, one was a recon of Evil of the Daleks, and boy do I wish that one would turn up. Patrick Troughton is just amazing in this story, and Fraser Hines shows that the companion getting manipulated by the Doctor, and CALLING HIM OUT ON IT, didn’t start with Ace. The other story I watched I picked by flipping a program guide pages and pointing at a page with my eyes closed.  Eyes opened revealed… The Time Monster! Well, what can one say about this story that hasn’t been said better by others? I rememberliking it more when I was younger, the idea of interstitial time being fascinating to a teenage me.  Also, Ingrid Pitt as Galleia. Yeah, this story is about TOMTIT alright, but transmission of matter, it ain’t. It’s not the best showcase for our leads, as both Katy Manning and Jon Pertwee just don’t seem interested in the story.  All of the asides and dialogue about groovy things just left me cold.  The story itself is pretty dire and goes on at least an episode too long.  I do still get a kick out of the fact that the Minotaur is played by David Prowse (or “Dave” as the credits have him), the man inside the Darth Vader suit for the original trilogy. I met him once at the old Starlog store in the Garden State Plaza mall YEARS ago.  He was doing a signing, and I was amazed at the number of people who WEREN’T there.  The man was effing DARTH VADER, people. Drop your Orange Julius and pay some respect! But even young Dave couldn’t really do much for me and this story. I like watching at random, but I hope my next pick is a little better.

Tomorrow is my older daughter’s birthday.  She’s the middle child, but the older of the two girls, and she turns 9.  One year away from double digits. She’s also the peacemaker and my future hippie tree-hugger, which is fine with me. She does have a Luna Lovegood thing going on which can be endearing but also frustrating as she gets distracted by the shiny VERY easily. But I’m noting it here so that somewhere down the road should she ever read this, my C2 knows I’m thinking about her and love her with all my heart.  Happy Birthday, sunshine.

That’s it for now.  Anybody who can spare a thought and some good vibes, send them my way on Thursday.  I’ll let you all (or all of the 0 of you who might be reading this) how my scores go. Until next time, be kind to one another.
